Drop-In Tub Framing Dimensions
The first thing to do is calculate the height of your tub and set it on the wall. You can add 3 to 3.5 inches for the height across the floors and the tub.
Taking the essential measurements will help you determine the dimension of the support. Additionally, you’ll know the exact size of wood you want and how it’ll be installed.
However, you must ensure the tub is on hand before building the support. That’s because distinct vendors use slightly distinctive dimensions.

Install Noggins
Installing noggins across the joists and wall is essential. It will provide extra support for the frame. Plus, it helps hold the outer linings.
So after taking out your dimensions, you nail the noggins using a hammer. You can also complete the job using a Porter cable nail gun.

Determine the Size of the Tub and Cut the Framework
A drop-in bathtub usually requires about 6 inches of flat area on both sides.
But if you don’t have this much space, don’t bother. You are to estimate the height and diameter of the tub and add 70 mm.
Next, you cut timbers for the upper and base sides of the support. This will help set the tub absolutely in the framework.

Identify the Vertical Studs on the Support
Now, you’re to trace the offcut of the frame and mark the position of the vertical studs.
You can do that by placing the vertical studs at each end of the frame. Leave a space of about 600 mm between the studs. This will be helpful when you want to cover the frame.

When you’re done marking the position of the vertical studs, you should cut them into eight pieces. Each vertical stud should measure 95 mm less than the desired height of the frame.
Doing so will allow the thickness of the top and bottom to be balanced. But if there’s a variation in the floor, you can add an extra 5 mm.
Next, you nail the studs between the top and bottom plates and assemble the two sides of the frame.

Move into Installation
Now, it’s time to install the two sides of the frame. To do that, position one side against the wall and the other parallel to it. Ensure the distance between both sides is based on the tub’s width. However, you’ll need to subtract 15 mm on both sides.
Doing so will help the tub rest on the frame and be appropriately positioned. Once you accurately position the frame, you can nail it into place.

Trim the Ends of the Frame
After mounting the frame, measure the distance between the sides at the end. Then you cut the top and bottom of both sides and three vertical studs for each end.
Next, you nail the studs between the top and bottom plates. Finally, nail the ends and use a spirit level. That is if the vertical edges are in the proper position.
Place the drop-in tub and ensure it fits properly on all four edges.
